1. The 4th of July is such an unpleasant day for enslaved people because to a slave the 4th of July reminds them of how cruel and injustice slavery was to which they were the constant victims (speech #3).
2. Frederick Douglass blames the founding fathers for the continuation of slavery in America (speech #2).
3. Fredrick Douglas thinks about the future that something will happen to end slavery (speech #4).

The 4th of July to a slave is cruel and injustice to which he is a constant victim. As Fredrick Douglas said that " The Fugitive Slave Law makes MERCY TO THEM, A CRIME:and bribes the judge who tries them (doc.4)."And blames the founding fathers who won your freedom that means nothing to a slave because they are not getting their freedom.Until that day Fredrick Douglas will have hope that a slave will get to celebrate the 4th of July.

( speech number 1)The 4th of july is a unpleasant day for the slaves because some of the slaves aren"t free and this means the whites celebrate 4th of july.( speech number 2 )Frederick Douglass blames slaveowners for the continuation in America because only white people were able to celebrate the 4th of July and not slaves.( speech number 4)" I therefore leave off where i began with hope ." What he base on the hope is that maybe in the future something will happen to end slavery.

1.It is a unpleasant day for enslaved people because "it reveals to him the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim". Also it reminds him that he is not free and he is not treated equal like every other man.
2.Frederick Douglass blames the fellow Americans for the continuation of slavery because he said "Behold the practical operation of this internal slave-trade, the American slave-trade, sustained by American politics and American religion".
3.He has hope for the abolition of slavery and he base that hope from saying "The arm of the lord is not shortened" which means the arm of the lord is long and could reach down there and help end slavery because it is the right thing to do.

The 4th of July is an unpleasant day for a slave because America is celebrating a day for freedom when a slave has their freedom taken way. (Doc. 3)
Frederick Douglass has hope that slavery will end. According to Douglass, the arm of the lord is not shortened. This is said in document 4, last paragraph.

"a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim." (speech #3)

4th of July is unpleasant to a slave because to them it was a phony sham. They felt that it was unfair that 4th of July was a day to celebrate freedom and independence while the slaves dont have that right. A quote to support this is from Document 3 which says that, "...a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim". Fredrick Douglass blames Americans for the continuation of slavery in the United States because they spread slavery throughout the United States with slave trade. After all he says, Douglass still has hope because he believes that "The arm of the Lord is not shorted", which means that God will care for them.

1. It is just a sham to the slaves that America brings these talks about equality and freedom but no action is actually done. It's like if this celebration just makes fun of slaves since they have nothing of freedom. The Constitution's first 3 words state "WE THE PEOPLE" which refers to everyone no matter what race or gender but our United States didn't understand this concept which was pretty shameful to those as slaves."YOur prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade, and solemnity, are to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy- a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages" (Douglass 3).
2. Frederick Douglass blamed the Americans for the continuation of slavery and how it was still permitted on America the "LAND OF THE FREE." "But, while the river may not be turned aside, it may dry up, and leave nothing behind but the withered branch, and the unsightly rock, to howl in the abyss-sweeping wind, the sad tale of departed glory" (Douglass 1).
3. Douglass contains this "hope" because of the operation of abolitionists trying to end slavery, it is possible for the United States to probably become a free country. Slavery is not in control because abolitionists are here to end it. "There are forces in operation, which must inevitably, work the downfall of slavery. The arm of the Lord is not shortened, and the doom of slavery is certain. I, therefore, leave off where I began, with hope" (Douglass 4).

The 4th of July is such an unpleasant day for enslaved people because they weren't treated equal nor where they free .an example from Doc 1 is "This, for the purpose of this celebration ,is the 4th of july.It is the birthday of your National Independence, and of your political freedom." Federick Douglass blamed the Americans, white people, for the continuation of slavery in America. An example from document 4 is," Behold the practical operation of this internal slave trade, the American slave trade, sustained by American politics and American religion." The reason Fedrick Douglass says he has hope for abolition of slavery in the United States is because America is young and seems to be dieing like a slave without water .An example from doc 1 is "But , while the river may not be turned aside, it may dry up , and leave nothing behind but the withered branch , and the unsightly rock , to howl in the abyss-sweeping wind, the sad tale of departed glory."

1. THE 4TH OF JULY IS SUCH AN UNPLEASANTLY DAY FOR THE SLAVES BECAUSE THIS DAY WAS MEANT TO CELEBRATE "THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE." SLAVES TOOK THIS DAY AS A DISGRACE BECAUSE THEY WERE NEVER CONSIDERED FREE THEY NEVER HAD RIGHTS SO WHY SHOULD THEY CELEBRATE A SHAM OF A HOLIDAY. THE 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATES A WHITE MANS FREEDOM, NOT A SLAVES FREEDOM.

2. FREDRICK DOUGLAS BLAMES THE ABOLITIONIST BECAUSE THEY TOOK NO ACTION IN SAYING ANYTHING TO STOP SLAVERY. HE BLAMES THEM BECAUSE THEY NEVER SPOKE UP TO STOP ALL OF THE MADNESS AND DISCRIMINATION OF SLAVES, THEY STOOD THERE AND WATCHED AS IT GOT WORSE.

3. HE DOESNT DESPAIR OF THIS COUNTRY. HE THINKS THAT THERE IS FORCES IN OPERATION , WHICH MUST INEVITABLY, WORK THE DOWNFALL OF SLAVERY. HE STATES AND I QUOTE " THE ARM OF THE LORD IS NOT SHORTENED," "AND THE DOOM OF SLAVERY IS CERTAIN. I, THEREFORE, LEAVE OFF WHERE I BEGAN, WITH HOPE.

1. The 4th of July is not a pleasant day for the slaves because it was like a insult to the slaves. The 4th of July was not meant for slaves because it was for free men but slaves were not free yet. It is the birthday of your National Independence, and of our political freedom. The freedom gained is yours; and you, therefore, may properly celebrate this anniversary. The 4th of July is the first great fact in your nation’s history. Douglass said that the 4th of July was a unpleasant day because the founding fathers created freedom and independence but it was a white men holiday.

Frederick blames the americans because document 4 says "the americans slave trade sustained by american politics & american religion.

1. In many ways, July 4th is no worse than July 3rd or July 5th, but it is the meaning of the holiday that is so offensive: a celebration of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." So it is the contrast with the intention that makes July 4th a "mockery" and "sham." It is hypocrisy at its worse.
2. He blames the Congress for passing the Fugitive Slave Law that makes our "king hating and people loving country" hardly a symbol of liberty. The churches should do something if they weren't wicked, indifferent and stupid. And finally the abolitionists in the audience, who share Douglass' beliefs, but who are comfortable in "their" freedom that is denied to him and other African-Americans.
3. After all of the negative things Douglass told his audience, he ended with a positive hopeful message. He said at the beginning that he was hopeful because "America was young" and we still had time to fix our mistakes. He quoted from the Bible to say that "the arm of the Lord are not shortened," meaning God can reach the slaves and help free them -- he is on their side. And finally there are "forces in operation" that will lead to slavery's downfall. Douglass doesn't say what those forces are, but I wonder if they were the abolitionists in the audience -- this was Douglass' way of motivating them to keep working to abolish slavery.
